Edel graduated as a Radiographer from University College Dublin in Ireland in 2005. She has Masters degrees in CT, Forensic Medicine and Forensic Radiography. She is now enrolled part time in a PhD combining her interest in CT and forensics. Edel has worked as a CT Supervisor in the public and private sectors in Australia over the past 10 years, as well as teaching CT to undergraduate students. She has presented at multiple national and international conferences. She has recently visited the island of Santo in Vanuatu, promoting Radiology Across Borders to the radiographers in Luganville!

CT Abdomen: Practical Protocols encompasses a range of scan protocols in order to answer the clinical question. This presentation will include the use of non-contrast and contrast enhanced imaging, including oral, intravenous and rectal contrast. Review of anatomy and physiology will assist with understanding the image characteristics of the different phases of contrast enhancement including arterial, portal venous, nephrograhic, orographic and delayed. 

At the end of this presentation, attendees will:

  1. understand the scan protocols that will best answer common clinical questions
  2. appreciate the role of contrast in abdominal CT imaging
  3. recognise image appearance of the different contrast phases on CT images
  4. recognise some common pathologies seen on CT of the abdomen
